Halliford School is a highly regarded independent day school in Shepperton, Surrey, educating boys aged 11–18, with girls joining the co-educational Sixth Form. Built on strong family values and a welcoming community ethos, the school encourages students to “come as you are and go as all you can be,” supporting each pupil to thrive academically, personally and socially. 

The school offers a broad and balanced curriculum, excellent pastoral care, and a wide range of sporting, cultural and extracurricular opportunities. Its commitment to educational excellence was reflected in its most recent inspection, where the Independent Schools Inspectorate rated Halliford “Excellent in all areas.” 

Morleys delivered a full turnkey refurbishment of the Design Technology department, working in close partnership with specialist subcontractors to deliver a number of highly technical elements. Centrally located within the school, the building presented restricted access and limited floor space relative to the quantity of specialist equipment required. 

Through careful coordination and intelligent space planning, Morleys successfully integrated new specialist DT equipment alongside retained legacy machinery, supported
by upgraded ventilation and extraction systems. The scope of works also included the installation of new durable flooring, ceiling-mounted air-conditioning, and full redecoration throughout, resulting in a modern, compliant, and future-ready Design Technology environment. 

A key design challenge was coordinating the bench layouts with existing overhead skylight positions. Morleys carefully developed the layout to ensure workbenches were optimally positioned beneath the skylights whilst still allowing for the correct routing and distribution of electrical services to each bench. 

This required precise coordination between lighting, containment and power supplies, ensuring full functionality and compliance whilst minimising the visual impact on the space and preserving the benefits of natural daylight. The result is a well-balanced, efficient workspace that supports both practical learning and technical teaching requirements.
