A multi-award winning, values-led independent day and boarding school in Reading for girls and boys aged 11-18, Leighton Park offers a Quaker education with a strong focus in STEAM, Music and Ethical Enterprise. Founded in 1890, it is currently in the top 0.3% of best performing schools in Berkshire and ranks 14th best performing boarding school in England. As a school that inspires achievement with values, character and community, the school identified a requirement to modernise key areas within the school to create contemporary and inspirational spaces for their students.

Through design engagement meetings with the Bursar, Keith Eldridge, we created 3D visual renders for the school administration offices, common room, Learning Resource Centre, the mezzanine, classroom study spaces, seminar room, lecture theatre and sixth form quiet room. Our designs carefully considered the blend of a contemporary aesthetic harmonising with a traditional building full of character and heritage.

We used a modernist colour palette of grey tones and black stained oak, complimenting the legacy furniture. We elevated the look and feel within the common room to create a wow factor with FourSure® 44 chairs that add a minimalist elegance combined with design-led comfort. We supplied bespoke tables 2m and 3m in length with a warm walnut finish and splayed leg. We used Maestro skid base chairs throughout the learning spaces for their contemporary, high quality, and ergonomic design. In the sixth form quiet room we created private and cosy retreats through the use of upholstered Fifteen study booths. In the office areas we used modular Pico bench desking with integrated cable management to create organised and clutter-free workspaces.

Our in-house Project Management and Installation teams worked to a tight deadline to ensure all furniture was in situ to complete the project by the end of the summer, ready for the students’ return in September.
