As part of the planning process for the new Piccadilly line trains launching in 2025, several tube train depots have scheduled upgrades in the pipeline, with the largest redevelopment works undertaken at Cockfosters. Delivered by modular construction experts Portakabin, the new building required loose furniture supply and installation for an open plan office space, staff canteen, meeting and training rooms, kitchen areas, changing rooms and a medical room.

Working from a drawing supplied by Portakabin, we worked in partnership to put together a furniture schedule of requirements for the different staff areas across the two-floor modular building.

The furniture had to be robust and easy to keep clean with minimal maintenance to withstand the demands of a busy and high-use environment. We worked to a neutral and calming colour palette, using oak finishes for the desking to add a warm touch. Strong and sturdy sled base canteen tables combined with stylish wipe clean stackable chairs were the ideal choice for the staff breakout area. Contemporary space maximising desking with easy-to-use operator chairs were selected for the open plan office. We also provided storage units, filing cabinets, medical beds, screens and first aid storage, as well as changing benches and lockers.

Onsite installation required our Project Managers to pass an Industry Common Induction (ICI) qualification to obtain a Sentinel Card, enabling them to oversee trackside railway projects.
