SINK UNITS
The provision of a sink area offers additional hand washing facilities to support hygiene and provides a facility to wash messy equipment after use so it can be cleaned and stored away for the next practical session. These are high-use areas in labs that ensure safe and hygienic practices, so must be carefully designed using long-lasting and robust materials.

Using Revit software, we produce 3D renders to help you visualise the space, bringing the project to life. We support you by creating mood boards and providing samples to assist with your selection of fittings, materials, furniture styles and finishes.

The main purpose of a school science lab is to provide a safe, hands-on environment where students can explore, experiment, and strengthen their understanding of scientific concepts through practical learning. We encourage workshops where students take part in design discussions, making them feel included and an integral part of creating environments that best suit their needs. Space
Our experienced Furniture Consultants assess the space and measure up or work from detailed floor plans. The Department for Education’s ‘Building Bulletin 103 (BB103)’ advises science is a specialist subject and so a secondary school must have dedicated science labs and preparation areas. For KS3 & KS4 with a typical class size of 30 pupils, the space must be 90 m² per lab. For Post-16 education with smaller group sizes of less than 16 pupils, the space must be > 90 m² if possible. This is considered the minimum spatial requirements needed to ensure flexibility and safe movement. There should be one prep room for every four labs, and the minimum area is 15 m² per lab served.
Design
Our in-house design team have decades of experience working on education projects and ensure designs comply with Building Bulletin 80 (BB80): Science Accommodation in Secondary Schools set out by the Department for Education, and CLEAPSS guidance, which complements BB103. Designs must ensure all students of different abilities can access the environment and amenities, safe circulation, access to services (gas, water, electricity), provision for demonstrations and group work, workbenches, and safe chemical storage. Our science lab designs encourage exploration, support student inclusivity, and provide a safe and functional space that positively impacts teaching and learning. We focus on creating a stimulating environment that supports students to develop their critical thinking and problem-solving skills to be able to thrive as independent learners and set the foundation for essential skills needed in post-16 study programmes.
