At Morleys we are committed to reducing our impact on the environment by finding ways to reduce our carbon footprint, continuously reviewing and improving our operational practices, and working with supply chains who share our ethos for sustainability.

Morleys are proud to be a member of the SME Climate Hub, a not-for-profit global initiative empowering small to medium sized companies to takeclimate action and build more resilient businesses of the future. We commit to lowering our impact on the environment through regular practice review and striving to set sustainable and achievable targets to reduce our carbon emissions each year. In making this pledge, we have joined the United Nations Race to Zero campaign.

Product & Supply Chain

We demonstrate our commitment to sourcing eco-friendly materials and supporting sustainable production processes byensuring all our timber-based products are sustainably sourced from FSC® or PEFC accredited suppliers, promoting product ranges and materials made from recycled and recyclable content, selecting manufacturers who are working towards a Net Zero strategy, and ensuring our packaging is recyclable or reusable.

Sustainable Purchasing Strategy

We offer a broad range of furniture from a trusted network of manufacturers who share our ethos for innovation and developing products that reduce environmental impact and waste. In line with our ISO 14001 accredited Environmental Policy we source responsibly and with integrity.

We actively seek to prioritise products that:

• Use recycled content or postconsumer waste

• Are manufactured via a process that uses renewable energy or reduces greenhouse gas emissions

• Do not contain Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) that are harmful to the environment

• Are upholstered from sustainable circular-economy fabric including natural wool-based materials
  or 100% post-consumer recycled content

• Comply with BS EN Standards and FIRA testing are reuseable or recyclable

Our passion for nurturing students through the innovation of well-designed learning environments has led our family-owned business on a 90-year journey where education and student well-being is central to what Morleys stands for. Part of a shared community within the education sector, through our BESA membership we uphold core values for quality and standards and work closely to DfE strategies for sustainable FF&E design solutions that promote well-being and decarbonization.

Social value activities are important to us, as they help shape our community and make a positive impact for future generations. We offer work experience opportunities for young people in the Bicester and Swansea areas to support the transition between education and employment, and over the years have helped many schools and charities through the donation of furniture or services.

As a family-owned company we understand our people are central to our success. As extended family, the well-being and happiness of our team
is paramount. We hold regular learning and
development sessions to help colleagues learn, grow and achieve their aspirations. Each colleague has a Personal Development Plan and appraisals. We have half-yearly whole-business conferences and regular social and team building events.

Health & Safety

Keeping our colleagues and those around us
safe is really important to us. With our own
warehousing facilities and a team of project
managers out onsite for installations, we have
meticulous health & safety policies and
procedures to keep working environments safe. Our H&S representatives meet monthly and we provide staff training for basic health and safety
in the workplace, Fire Safety, COSHH,
Environmental Awareness and Cybersecurity.
We have first aiders and mental health first aiders. Our project managers are SSSTS and CSCS
accredited.

Our Chosen Charity

Morleys Stores Group are sponsors of The
Honeypot Children’s Charity. Our donations support this incredible organisation to enhance the lives of young carers aged 5-12 years. They provide essential respite breaks and on-going outreach support nationwide to give young carers a break from demanding and stressful
responsibilities at home, ensuring a safe, nurturing environment where children at risk can grow
and fulfill their full potential.

A Greener Future

Climate change is having a significant impact on our planet. Human activities are causing a devastating effect on natural resources and animal habitats through the accelerated rate of global-warming. We all have a responsibility to reduce our impact on the environment and Morleys are committed to finding sustainable FF&E solutions that protect our planet for our future generations.

Our Objectives

As a business we are constantly striving for sustainable
initiatives to help us reduce our impact on the environment. We aim to:

• Continue to reduce our energy consumption and improve
  business efficiencies.

• Reduce product packaging and ensure that over 95% of any
  packaging that is used is recyclable.

• Ensure we have visibility of scope 3 emissions for our top 5
  supply chain partners by 2030.

We have included climate change policies within
our integrated management systems in line with February 2024 climate action changes.

ISO 14001 Environmental Standards

International Standards on environmental management provide tools for a strategic approach to environmental issues. The most recognised is ISO 14001, setting out the criteria for an environmental management system (EMS). Together with a set of
supporting documents it forms the ISO 14000 family of standards. Morleys are proud to hold this certification.

Reduce our Carbon Footprint & Energy Consumption

We regularly review our business practices to ensure we strive to make continuous improvements and find more sustainable initiatives. We select partners with strong eco credentials to support us with our sustainability objectives. To date we have:

• Reduced our warehouse footprint by 62% in the past year.
• Improved energy savings from LED lighting resulting in over 38% reduction in energy usage.
• Reduced our vehicle fleet by 80% in favour of a mission zero awarded carrier.

More Initiatives Include:

• Increased our direct supply to reduce carbon emissions from transportation.
• Removed warehouse gas heaters and replaced with thermal insulated workwear for staff to heat themselves rather than heat the space.
• Agreed a hybrid working model and car share scheme to reduce travel emissions.
• Operate an ambient temperature in the office restricted to never exceed 21.5 degrees.
• Partner with cloud-based providers and operate a paperless Finance department to reduce environmental footprint.
• Conduct an annual service of boilers and air conditioning units to save energy.
• Obtain our electricity supply through Smartest Energy – the leading provider of renewable energy.
• Work with Codestone, a managed service provider, who are carbon neutral.
• Partner with Darcica Logistics who are plastic-free and working towards a zero emissions fleet.
• Conduct SECR (Streamlined Energy & Carbon Reporting) across the Morleys Group to measure and report on our carbon footprint.

Zero to Landfill Waste Management

We manage our waste and recycling through Grundon and are proud to have achieved a zero to landfill through recycling or reusing energy from waste, taking a sustainable and more environmentally friendly approach to waste management and circular lifecycle.

Most of our furniture is palletised, reducing the need for additional packaging materials. Wooden pallets are recycled and any packaging onsite from installations is removed for recycling. To reduce the use of plastics, where possible we use furniture blankets for the safe transportation of products, as they are reuseable.

We outsource to partners who are Net Zero/Carbon Neutral, and select providers with green credentials

Supporting Schools with their Sustainability Objectives

The Department for Education (DfE) is committed to sustainability and net-zero goals. Any new or refurbished school delivered centrally by the DfE must be designed to be net-zero in operation. Morleys are united in this vision and continually look for ways we can support schools with their sustainability objectives through our comprehensive FF&E solutions.
